Tips to Speed up Your WordPress Site

Is your website very slow? Really, it is very irritating for your readers if your website speed is very slow. No one is interested in visiting your website if it load very slow. They will probably never come back once they visit your website and suffer from slow speed. Also after some time you will feel decrease in numbers of your visitors and this will be because you will loose your search engine rankings.

After a long research we have come up with some simple and basic ways that will help you to speed up your website.

Install a Caching Plugin

When you use a cache plugin, it will increase your website speed drastically. As WordPress is based on PHP, that’s why when a website loads then a lot of PHP calls are executed. The plugin create cache of your page and stores it in HTML files. There are lot of many caching plugins available on internet. But i personally recommend you to use WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache.

Disable Post Revision

It is very great feature for a website which is having multiple authors. But it is not the best option for a website with single author. Post revisions creates a new row in your wp_posts table every time means if your posts or pages got edited 3 times, you will have 3 new rows in wp_posts table.

To disable this feature completely you can simply add following line in wp-config.php file

define(‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’, false );

Use Slash (/) At The End of Your Links

When a server loads a link in the form of “http://www.domain.com/contact” it first find that what kind of file or webpage is contained in that address. This wastes a lot of time. If instead of using the above link structure if you will include a slash (“/”) at the end like “http://www.domain.com/contact/” the web server will not waste time to get the link information as it already know that the link points to a directory and thus it will reduce the time to load the page.

Optimize Your Images

Using images is one of the best way to make our website attractive. Without images our post will look incomplete. But when we upload an image to our website it takes a lots of bytes. But do you know it also contains some bytes that are not necessary to be uploaded? As we also upload these bytes with original image thus it results in effecting website loading time a lot.

To remove that extra bytes while uploading your images, you can use a WordPress plugin named as WP Smush.it. It automatically optimize your images at the time of uploading and remove that extra bytes from images without loosing image quality and reduce its size.

Delete Unused Plugins

Many plugins increases the page size and also loads many unwanted CSS and JavaScript. This decreases the loading speed of your website. So make sure to remove the plugins that you are not using.

Try to use less plugins. Plugins only make your website heavy. So only use plugins wherever needed.

Clean Up Your Database

Your database sometimes fills with some unwanted things like spam comments, unapproved comments, unused tags etc. Due to this your website takes a lot of time to load. To optimize your database you can use different plugins available on internet. But i will prefer you to use WP-Optimize or WP-Cleanup.

Stay Up To Date

WordPress launch their updates periodically having some security fix and new features. So each new version comes with certain code fixes and speed improvements.

The only thing you need to do is to press update button and everything else will be done by WordPress by itself. Its is very fast process and takes less than 1 min to update it.

Also if you find any update of plugins installed on your website then don’t forget to update them also.

Just follow these steps and i am pretty sure that you will feel difference in your website speed. As your website speed will increase drastically. Don’t forget to share your experiences with us.
